يقوم الناس في طوكيو بتقييم الأضرار بعد أن ضرب إعصار المنطقة بأمطار غزيرة ورياح قياسية. وقد تسبب الإعصار في إصابة سبعة وثلاثين شخصا على الأقل وانقطاع التيار الكهربائي عن مئات الآلاف من المنازل.

وتسببت العاصفة في تناثر حاويات شحن في ميناء يوكوهاما جنوب العاصمة ودمرت جزءا من الجدار البحري.

وفي محافظة تشيبا القريبة، انهار جزء من ملعب للتدريب على لعبة الغولف جراء الرياح الشديدة مما تسبب في إلحاق أضرار في العديد من المنازل القريبة. وأصيبت امرأة بجروح جسيمة في الحادث وتطلب الأمر إنقاذها. ويقول أحد السكان الآخرين إن جزءا من منزله قد دُمّر جراء الحادثة.

وقد حطمت الرياح العاتية الأرقام القياسية المسجلة في بعض المناطق، حيث شهدت مدينة تشيبا هبات هوائية تجاوزت سرعتها 200 كيلومتر في الساعة.

وتقول شركة طوكيو للطاقة الكهربائية "تيبكو" إن نحو تسعمائة ألف منزل ظلت بلا كهرباء حتى الساعة الحادية عشرة صباحا.

وتقول شركة تيبكو إن برجي كبلات كهربائية ضخمين سقطا في مدينة كيميتسو بمحافظة تشيبا.

كما عرقلت العاصفة حركة القطارات للملايين من الأشخاص. وتم إيقاف خدمات القطارات ومن بينها قطارات الرصاصة "الشينكاسين" إلى أجزاء أخرى من البلاد. ولكن عمليات التشغيل استؤنفت الآن.

وقد تم إلغاء أكثر من 160 رحلة جوية داخلية بسبب الإعصار. وتطلب شركات خطوط الطيران من المسافرين التحقق من آخر المعلومات.

According to Tokyo Electric Power Company, which services the Kanto region, along with Yamanashi Prefecture and the eastern portion of Shizuoka Prefecture, damage to power lines, like these ones at Chiba, caused power outages at approximately 930,000 households.

When the typhoon arrived in the early hours of the morning, coastal areas around Shizuoka Prefecture’s Izu Peninsula were the first to sustain damage.

Buildings in the area also sustained damage. This scene shows the effects of the typhoon along National Route 16, a highway belt around Tokyo that links the major capital cities of Chiba, Saitama and Yokohama.

Train services in and around Tokyo were suspended from roughly 10:00 p.m. last night. While the Tokaido Shinkansen service began running at 7:40 a.m. after a slight delay, most of the city’s rail lines, including the Yamanote loop line, were scheduled to restart at 8:00 a.m. 

According to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency, five people across Shizuoka and Kanagawa Prefectures sustained minor injuries as a result of the typhoon.
